Tom is a namer and brand writer with 20 years experience helping companies define and express their brands in words. His career began during the tech boom of the 90s, when he worked as an advertising copywriter, helping brands like Sun Microsystems, Netscape, Hewlett-Packard, and Symantec leverage the capabilities of the Web for marketing and customer acquisition campaigns.
During the decade that followed, he led naming engagements for Fitch San Francisco, Sapient, and Gensler Studio 585, in addition to providing editorial and content strategy for brands like Walmart, Allsteel, and Expedia. From 2004 to 2009, he was Editor-in-Chief at Williams-Sonoma, where he managed the brand’s verbal identity and content in its three channels. For the past several yeas, he has led naming and verbal identity projects and developed brand creative for clients including AAA, Apple, Arm & Hammer, Dolby, DuPont, Mozilla, and Obscura Digital.
A native of Washington, DC, Tom is a trained classical pianist who holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Colorado, Boulder and the University of Lancaster, England. He lives in Oakland, CA.
